MRE added 'enhancing' to the 604 crate engine for IMCA racers in 2017. We did not realize how big of a deal this was going to be at the time. When adding this new product, we were getting more calls asking if we do the 602 as well. So over the course of the racing season, we have developed a 602 program for IMCA racers. Our goal for either engine was to take a racer’s current used up crate engine, freshen it, then enhance it to whatever level the racers budget or local tracks' tech would allow them to do.

We have many levels to choose from and we will provide a few examples below. The biggest downfall to the crate engine is when it’s wore out you have to buy a new one. So, all the money you spend toward a new engine just gets you what you had before, and more than likely, what you had before is why you’re getting beat week after week at your local track. Our goal is to freshen your worn-out engine, enhance it from 20-80 horsepower, and it cost approximately the same as the 'new' replacement engine.

  • Freshen and 30 HP gain, approx. $4,000
  • Freshen and 75 HP gain, approx. $5,000-$5,500
  • Freshen and 90 HP gain, approx. $6,000-$6,500

One other option we have for a 602 is this…we can take a brand new engine, and get you a 35 horsepower gain with a dyno session for $2,900. This is a very stealthy operation and would only expect this to pass tech with flying colors. We have new 602 engines in stock to do this too. We also provide a before and after dyno sheet so you can see the results.

50-100 night 604 Crate Engine

  • Freshen and 30 HP gain, approx. $6,000-$6,500
  • Freshen and 60-70 HP gain, approx. $7,000-$7,500
  • Freshen and 100 HP gain, approx. $8,500

What makes this work so well is once you have enhanced the engine, the next time it gets worked on, the price of the next freshen will be cheaper due to already having the “go fast” parts purchased.

Socket 604 is a 604-pin microprocessor socket designed to interface an Intel'sXeon processor to the rest of the computer. It provides both an electrical interface as well as physical support. This socket is designed to support a heatsink.

Launched at November 18, 2002, over the year after Socket 603, it was originally used to accommodate most Xeons introduced at the time. It was succeeded by LGA 771 in 2006 for low- and mid-end server ranges, but still staying in high-end server range, including 4- and 8-processor configurations, in which the successor - LGA 1567 - appeared in 2010. At the time, LGA 1366 was the primary socket for Xeons in low- and mid-end server ranges, with cheaper configurations still sometimes using LGA 771 socket. The socket had an unusually long life span, lasting 9 years (2 years longer than consumer-grade LGA 775) until the last processors supporting it ceased production in the 3rd quarter of 2011.

Technical specifications[edit]

Socket 604 was designed by Intel as a zero insertion force socket intended for workstations and server platforms. While the socket contains 604 pins, it only has 603 electrical contacts, the last being a dummy pin.[1] Each contact has a 1.27mm pitch with regular pin array, to mate with a 604-pin processor package.

Socket 604 processors utilize a bus speed of either 400, 533, 667, 800, or 1066 MHz and were manufactured in either a 130, 90, 65 or 45 nm process. Socket 604 processors cannot be inserted into Socket 603 designed motherboards due to one additional pin being present, but Socket 603 processors can be inserted into Socket 604 designed motherboards, since the extra pin slot does not do anything for a 603 CPU.

Socket 604 processors range from 1.60 GHz through 3.80 GHz, with the higher clock rates only found among older, slower NetBurst-based Xeons.
